About me, Mike the Boilerman:

My real name is Mike Bryant, and I repair boilers for a living. I specialise in the old and the unusual, boilers that other technicians tend to claim cannot be fixed. Sometimes they are right but often they are not, which leaves me with what turns out to be quite a large market niche almost to myself!

I live in a village in Wiltshire called Great Bedwyn, a few miles west of Hungerford, and roughly 15 miles south of Swindon. My interests other than boilers are canal boats and the beautiful old vintage diesel engines often installed in the older boats, and church tower bell ringing. Bell ringing is a fascinating mix of physical skill, mental exercise, and teamwork. We ring the bells for weddings, the New Year and various local celebrations e.g. Harvest Festival as well as for occasional church services. Most churches have a bell tower but curiously if you look at the website of any church with a bell tower and a ring of bells, the bells are often not even mentioned. I suspect this is because there is a tension sometimes between the clergy and the bellringers, the latter not necessarily all being God fearing Christians.
